Amherst 5, Ohio Wesleyan 4 (3/16/2002)

A diving catch with 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Amherst a win in non-conference action in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Saturday in Cape Coral, Fla., ending the Bishops' season-opening 9-game winning streak.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 2-1, entering the ninth when the Lord Jeffs got 3 runs off junior righthander Shaun Burchett (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) to pad the lead to 5-1, but the Bishops came back in the bottom of the frame with 3 runs of their own and had the winning run on base.

Senior first baseman Drew Caravella (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) had 2 hits to lead the Bishop offense. Sophomore righthander Tyler Mott (Grove City) was the starting and losing pitcher.
