Ohio Wesleyan 8, Ohio Northern 4 (3/23/2002)

Sophomore second baseman Mike Albert (Shelby) slapped a 2-run single in the seventh inning to put the Bishops ahead to stay and junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) lined a 2-run single in the ninth to seal a non-conference win over Ohio Northern on Saturday in Ada.

Trailing, 1-0, in the top of the sixth, the Bishops tied the game on an RBI single by junior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) that scored senior third baseman Matt Fortuna (Strongsville/St. Edward). Ohio Northern came back with a 2-run single by Brent Rollins in the bottom of the frame for a 3-1 lead.

With one out in the Bishop seventh, senior outfielder Michael Hershberger (Massillon/Canton Central Catholic) reached on an error. Junior catcher Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) followed with an RBI double, and after walks to Fortuna and junior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan), Albert delivered his 2-run single that put the Bishops ahead, 4-3. Ohio Wesleyan added another run in the inning on another Polar Bear error.

The Polar Bears closed to within 5-4 with a run in the bottom of the seventh on a single, an error and 2 wild pitches, but the Bishops got that run back in the eighth on an RBI double by junior shortstop Joe Deck (Waverly).

Albert and Loudenslager each had 2 hits for the Bishops.

Sophomore righthander Tyler Mott (Grove City) went the distance on the mound, scattering 6 hits, striking out 11 and walking none, to pick up the decision.
