Wesleyan 7, Wabash 0 Senior lefthander Matt Farmwald (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) and senior righthander Curt Moenter (Delphos/St. John) turned in dominating pitching performances to lead Ohio Wesleyan to a doubleheader sweep of Wabash in North Coast Athletic Conference West Division play on Saturday at Littick Field. Farmwald fired a 3-hit shutout in the opener, striking out 13 and walking but one, while Moenter took a perfect game into the sixth inning and finished with a complete-game 4-hitter. The Bishops jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the opener as junior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) singled with one out and, one out later, advanced to third as senior first baseman Drew Caravella (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) doubled down the rightfield line. Both runners scored on an error on a grounder by sophomore third baseman Tyler Mott (Grove City) before junior catcher Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) singled in Mott for a 3-0 lead. Ohio Wesleyan put the game out of reach with 4 runs in the fifth, with Burnett's 2-run single and an RBI single by junior second baseman Joe Deck (Waverly) the key blows. Wabash did not advance a runner to third base and had only 2 runners reach second, those on doubles by Josh Stanton and Jake Knott. Senior outfielder Shaun Rice (Dublin/Columbus Watterson) and Burnett each had 2 hits for the Bishops. In the nightcap, Caravella and Rice belted homers to power the Bishop offense. Caravella's 3-run shot in the first put the Bishops on the scoreboard and Rice added a 2-run blast, followed later in the inning by a Caravella RBI double, during a 3-run second inning. Moenter retired the first 16 Little Giant batters. Jared Martin foiled Moenter's perfect game bid by drawing a one-out walk in the sixth and Danny Schubert broke up the no-hitter with a single. Wabash got on the scoreboard in the seventh on a leadoff double by Knott, a walk to Stanton, a passed ball and a 2-run single by Bryson Renbarger. Moenter struck out 12 and walked 2 in going the distance. Rice went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI to highlight the Bishop offense, while Caravella finished with 4 RBI. Loudenslager and junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) added 2 hits apiece. Back
