Marietta 13, Ohio Wesleyan 10 (4/16/2002) Marietta rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete a comeback from an 8-0 deficit and defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action on Tuesday in Marietta. The Bishops had taken a 7-0 lead in the first inning. Junior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby), senior first baseman Drew Caravella (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson), junior catcher Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy), senior outfielder Michael Hershberger (Massillon/Canton Central Catholic) and junior shortstop Joe Deck (Waverly) plated runs and junior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan) capped the inning with a home run to left. Ohio Wesleyan made it 8-0 in the fourth when senior outfielder Shaun Rice (Dublin/Columbus Watterson) tripled and scored on a single by Loudenslager. Marietta sliced the deficit to 8-3 on Chris Sidick's bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the fourth, closed to within 9-6 on sacrifice flies by Sidick and Todd Yoder in the sixth and made the score 9-8 on a solo homer by Brent Curtin and an RBI single by Dusty Childress in the seventh. Loudenslager ripped an RBI double in the top of the eighth to hike the Bishop lead to 10-8, but Marietta loaded the bases with 1 out on a pair of walks and a single before 2 runs scored on an error by junior third baseman Matt Fortuna (Strongsville/St. Edward), 2 more on a Childress double and the final run scored on a Bishop error. Loudenslager went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and Deck drove in 2 runs for the Bishops. Sophomore righthander Tyler Mott (Grove City), the fourth of 5 Ohio Wesleyan pitchers, was charged with the loss. Justin Papania, who came on in the first inning and worked the rest of the game, picked up the win for the Pioneers. Back
