Ohio Wesleyan 25, Bethany 4 (4/17/2002) Ohio Wesleyan erupted for 20 runs in the first 3 innings and slammed 6 homers on the day as the Bishops powered past Bethany in non-conference action on Wednesday at Littick Field. Senior outfielder Shaun Rice (Dublin/Columbus Watterson) opened the scoring with a leadoff homer in the first inning. Senior first baseman Drew Caravella (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) belted 2 RBI doubles in the inning, and junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson), junior shortstop Seth Tenpenny (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne) and junior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) also drove in runs in the inning. Bethany answered with RBI by Sean Flood and Shaun Spencer in the top of the second, but 8 more runs by Ohio Wesleyan in the bottom of the inning broke the game open. Sophomore outfielder Byron Lowe (Medford, Mass./Cambridge Ridge) led off the inning with a homer and sophomore third baseman Tyler Mott (Grove City) capped the uprising with a 2-run shot. Between those circuit clouts, Rice, Loudenslager, Caravella and junior catcher Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) also drove in runs. Bethany's Paul Krisanda cracked a 2-run homer in the top of the third, but Loudenslager answered with a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to make the score 20-4. Schultheis hit a 2-run double in the fourth, junior first baseman Mark Wherry (Dublin/Scioto) smacked a 2-run homer in the fifth and junior outfielder David Schaub (Canton/Central Catholic) hit his first collegiate home run in the seventh to cap the Bishop scoring. Loudenslager finished the game 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and 4 runs scored, while Caravella was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI and Mott was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Sophomore lefthander Michael Myers (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) went the distance on the mound, scattering 7 hits, striking out 4 and walking 3 to raise his record to 4-0. Back
