Ohio Wesleyan 17, Muskingum 8 (4/22/2002) Junior shortstop Joe Deck (Waverly) drove in 5 runs and senior outfielder Shaun Rice (Dublin/Columbus Watterson) drove in 4 to power Ohio Wesleyan to a non-conference win over Muskingum on Monday in New Concord. The Bishops had taken a 1-0 lead in the second on Rice's bases-loaded walk before Muskingum came back with 4 runs in the third, 3 scoring on a Matt Edwards home run. The Muskies then added a run in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead. Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the fifth when sophomore third baseman Tyler Mott (Grove City) and senior first baseman Drew Caravella (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) opened the inning with singles before junior catcher Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) cracked a 3-run homer. The Bishops added 2 runs later in the inning on a Muskingum error that scored Deck and junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson). Mott drove in a run in the sixth to give the Bishops a 7-5 lead, but Muskingum tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Josh McQueen and Ryan Alexander drove in runs. The Bishops took the lead for good on Rice's 3-run homer in the seventh. Senior outfielder Michael Hershberger (Massillon/Canton Central Catholic) had singled and moved to second on a sacrifice and junior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan) walked to set the table for Rice. Deck drove in a run with an eighth-inning sacrifice fly and the Bishops put the game out of reach with 6 runs in the ninth, with Deck's grand slam capping the scoring. Mott, the third of 3 Ohio Wesleyan pitchers, picked up the win. He worked the final 4.0 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5. Back
