Ohio Wesleyan 3, Otterbein 1 (5/1/2002) Junior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) lined a 2-run single to put the Bishops ahead to stay in a non-conference win over Otterbein on Wednesday in Westerville. The win was the 30th of the season for the Battling Bishops, marking the 11th time in the last 13 seasons that Ohio Wesleyan has reached that figure. Ohio Wesleyan jumped to a 2-0 lead in the third when junior shortstop Joe Deck (Waverly) and senior outfielder Michael Hershberger (Massillon/Canton Central Catholic) drew one-out walks. The runners moved up on a ground out by senior outfielder Shaun Rice (Dublin/Columbus Watterson) and scored on Loudenslager's single. Otterbein closed to within 2-1 in the fourth when Tory Allen singled, stole second, moved to third on a Jeremy Compton single and scored when Dustin Lee grounded into a double play. The Bishops added an insurance run in the ninth when junior catcher Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) led off with a double. Pinch-runner Mike Albert (Shelby) moved to third on a sacrifice by junior third baseman Matt Fortuna (Strongsville/St. Edward) and scored on a double by junior second baseman Seth Tenpenny (Powell/Worthington Kilbourne). Sophomore lefthander Mike Grady (North Canton/Hoover) started on the mound and pitched 4-plus innings, scattering 4 hits. Junior righthander Shaun Burchett (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) relieved in the fifth and worked 3.0 innings of no-hit relief to pick up the win. Senior lefthander Matt Farmwald (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) worked a scoreless eighth and senior righthander Curt Moenter (Delphos/St. John) finished the game with a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season.
