Ohio Wesleyan 34, Olivet 16 (9/8/2001) Senior tailback Matt Capone (Cleveland/Padua) scored 3 touchdowns to help the Bishops take a 34-0 halftime lead en route to a non-conference win over Olivet on Saturday at Selby Field. Capone scored on a 4-yard run to cap a 58-yard, 9-play drive on the Bishops' first possession of the season. He also scored on a 17-yard pass reception from senior quarterback Mike Jonesco (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) and on a 1-yard run in the second quarter. Capone led the Bishops with 86 yards in 10 rushes. Sophomore halfback Chad Smith (Prospect/Elgin) scored on a 4-yard run and junior halfback Jason Osborne (Oak Harbor) scored on a 13-yard run. Jonesco completed 6 of 10 passes for 96 yards, with senior split end Joe Clinton (Farmington Hills, Mich./U. Detroit Jesuit) making a team-high 3 catches for 59 yards. Ohio Wesleyan scored on 5 of its 8 first-half possessions, which included drives of 78 and 80 yards. The Bishops outgained Olivet, 262-57, in the first half and denied the Comets on their first 12 third-down conversion attempts. Junior linebacker Chad Marlatt (Coshocton/Ridgewood) led the Bishops with 7 tackles, including 2 for loss; sophomore linebacker Billy Chrisovergis (Dayton/Bellbrook) had 6 stops, with 1 for loss; sophomore safety Travis Finch (Wayland, Mass.) contributed 6 stops and senior tackle Jamie Vanek (Parma) and sophomore end Corey Krieger (Oak Harbor) each had 2 sacks among their 4 tackles. Olivet got on the scoreboard when Jameel Cooper broke loose on a 92-yard run on the Comets' first play of the fourth quarter. Cooper added an 8-yard touchdown run later in the period and Olivet quarterback Jason Van Luven hit passes for 2-point conversions after both scores. Back
