Earlham 2, Ohio Wesleyan 1 (10/9/2001)

Rebecca Aldred scored with 8:52 left in the first overtime period to give Earlham a win over Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Tuesday at the Henry Street Field.

Earlham jumped to a 1-0 lead with 25:45 left in the first half when Aldred bounced a 10-yard shot past Bishop goalkeeper Jody Dickinson (Dublin/Coffman).

The Bishops evened the score just over 3 minutes later when senior midfielder Lianne Preville (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) sent the ball across the circle to freshman forward Lila Barzegar (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill), who snuck a shot just inside the left post with 22:20 left in regulation time.

During the second half, Ohio Wesleyan looked as though it would continue the comeback magic it displayed during its last 4 games, when the Bishops spotted their opponent a 1-0 lead each time and came back to win. But while Ohio Wesleyan controlled play for most of the period, firing 11 shots at Earlham keeper Shannon Shehan, the Bishops were unable to score the go-ahead goal.

The Bishops had a couple of good scoring chances early in the overtime period, but Shehan and the Earlham defense held.

The Quakers scored the game-winner when Dickinson ranged out of the cage to clear the ball from along the right end line, but Earlham's Kailynn Kitaji was able to control the ball and sent it inside to Aldred for the deciding goal.

Dickinson was credited with 3 saves in the Bishop cage, while Shehan had 18 saves for Earlham. Ohio Wesleyan outshot the Quakers, 23-9.
