Wooster 76, Ohio Wesleyan 55 (1/23/2002) Wooster sank a trio of 3-pointers during an 11-2 blitz in the final 3 minutes of the first half and went on to top Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at Branch Rickey Arena. The Fighting Scots hit a total of 5 3-pointers during the final 8 minutes of the first period, padding a tenuous 25-22 lead into a 44-30 advantage at the break. Antwyan Reynolds and Bryan Nelson hit 3-pointers as Wooster moved to a 33-22 lead, and after the Bishops closed to within 33-28 with 4:03 left, Matt Smith hit a basket and a 3-pointer and Blake Mealer drilled a couple of 3-pointers in the final minute for the 14-point halftime lead. Ohio Wesleyan stayed withing striking distance for the first 10 minutes of the second half, but a 11-1 run by the Fighting Scots over the next 4 minutes of play put the game out of reach. Sophomore center Travis Schwab (Medina) led the Bishops with 14 points, while sophomore guard Shawn Kindred (Delaware/Hayes) added 11 points. Freshman forward Brandon Cole (Sidney) led the Bishops with 9 rebounds. Nelson and Smith led Wooster with 14 points apiece, followed by Reynolds with 13, Rodney Mitchell with 12 and Mealer with 11.
