Kenyon 58, Ohio Wesleyan 56 (2/1/2002) Beth Lye sank 4 free throws in the final minute to give Kenyon a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Bishops on Friday in Gambier. Ohio Wesleyan had taken a 56-54 lead on a pair of free throws by senior post Katy Sturtz (Worthington/Columbus Watterson) with 1:53 to play, capping a comeback from a 10-point second-half deficit. Kenyon missed 3 field goal tries on its next possession but cleared all 3 offensive rebounds, and Lye drew a foul from junior post Mindy Hammond (Columbus/DeSales) with :42 to play. Lye sank both free throws to tie the game, then cleared a defensive rebound off a missed 3-pointer by freshman wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession. Sturtz fouled Lye with :23 to go and Lye again sank both free throws to give Kenyon the lead. Ohio Wesleyan had a chance to tie the game but did not get off a shot on its final possession as Kenyon's Eileen Wittman stole the ball from Hammond in the waning seconds. Trailing, 48-38, with 11:25 left, Ohio Wesleyan came back with a 12-2 run fueled by 3 Hammond baskets. Sophomore post Tiffany Barbee (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) and senior guard Elizabeth Edinger (Toledo/Whitmer) also scored buckets and senior guard Michelle Wolfe (Gahanna/Lincoln) added 2 free throws during the run, which ended on a Hammond jumper that tied the game at 50-50 with 5:41 to play. The teams traded points over the next 2 minutes, leaving the score tied at 54-54 on a Barbee free throw with 4:08 left in regulation. Hammond led the Bishops with 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Sturtz finished with 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds and Heil scored 11 points.
