Ohio Wesleyan 18, St. Joseph's 15

Senior shortstop Joe Deck (Waverly) drove in the go-ahead run during an unusual seventh-inning rally, helping Ohio Wesleyan defeat St. Joseph's (Maine) in non-conference action on Sunday in Fort Myers, Fla.

Trailing, 15-13, going into the seventh, the Bishops scored 5 runs without a hit in the inning. Junior first baseman Tyler Mott (Grove City) and senior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) opened the inning with walks before senior first baseman Bo Burnett (Lewis Center/Olentangy) reached on an error to load the bases.

Senior third baseman Mark Wherry (Dublin/Scioto) was hit by a pitch to force in one run, and senior infielder Matt Fortuna (Strongsville/St. Edward) followed with a walk to force in the tying run.

Deck plated the go-ahead run with a ground out and Wherry scored on a wild pitch to make the score 17-15. Junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) was intentionally walked and senior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan) delivered a sacrifice fly to drive in an insurance run.

The 5-run seventh was in stark contrast to the Bishop scoring during the first 5 innings, as Ohio Wesleyan slammed 6 home runs in taking a 13-10 lead. Loudenslager cracked a pair of 2-run shots, while Mott and Burnett homered in the fourth and Schultheis and Falk cracked round-trippers in the fifth.

St. Joseph took the lead with 5 runs in the bottom of the fifth, setting up the seventh-inning rally.

Freshman lefthander Josh Nice (Hinckley/Highland) worked a scoreless sixth inning to pick up the win and junior righthander Andy Busch (Westerville/South) worked a scoreless seventh inning for his first save of the season.

Loudenslager went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI to highlight the Bishop offense.
