Eddie Borkowski fired a 3-hit shutout and John Carroll scored 4 times in the second inning to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action on Wednesday at Oberlin, Ohio.

The Blue Streaks took the lead on a double by Jim DiLella and a 2-out single by Matt DeGiovanni. After a balk moved him to second, DeGiovanni scored on a single by Mike D'Andrea. John Carroll added a run later in the inning on a wild pitch and another on Eric Floriani's RBI single.

Ohio Wesleyan got a 1-out triple by junior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) in the third, but Albert was retired on a fielder's choice grounder by senior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan). The Bishops did not have another baserunner until the ninth, when junior second baseman Brad Whitman (Canfield) doubled with one out and moved to third on a single by senior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby). Senior designated hitter Bo Burnett (Powell/Olentangy) then walked to load the bases, but Borkowski worked out of the jam without allowing a run.

The shutout was the first recorded against Ohio Wesleyan since the opening game of the 2000 season, when Messiah blanked the Bishops by a 1-0 score. The win was the first for John Carroll in 6 meetings against Ohio Wesleyan.

Freshman lefthander Josh Nice (Hinckley/Highland) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
