Ohio Wesleyan 11, Otterbein 9

April 11, 2003

[ Joe Loudenslager ]Senior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) cracked 2 home runs to highlight a barrage of 6 round-trippers that helped Ohio Wesleyan outslug Otterbein in non-conference action on Friday at Littick Field.

After junior righthander Tyler Mott (Grove City) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first, the Bishops took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the inning when Loudenslager scored on the front end of a double steal.

Ohio Wesleyan hiked the lead to 4-0 in the third when freshman shortstop T.J. Conroy (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) led off with a single, j
unior second baseman Brad Whitman (Canfield) blasted a 2-run homer to right and Mott followed with a homer to left.

Otterbein got on the scoreboard in the fifth by assembling 3 straight singles, but the Bishops answered with 5 more runs in the bottom of the inning, with Loudenslager belting a 3-run homer and senior third baseman Mark Wherry (Dublin/Scioto) adding a 2-run shot later in the inning for a 9-1 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

The Cardinals came back with 3 runs in the sixth on a solo homer by Aaron Stupica and a 2-run shot by Brian Meyer, then closed to within 9-7 in the seventh on Eric Heminger's 3-run homer. Matt Hunter then led off the top of the eighth with a solo homer to bring Otterbein within 9-8.

But the Bishops answered with more long balls of their own in the bottom of the eighth, with Loudenslager and
junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) hitting back-to-back bombs to give Ohio Wesleyan an 11-8 cushion.

Otterbein threatened in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with one out, but freshman righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) worked out of the jam to post his second save of the season. Mott was credited with the win, while Jason Collier took the loss for Otterbein.

Loudenslager went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, while Schultheis was 3-for-5. Whitman and Wherry also drove in 2 runs apiece.
