Ohio Wesleyan 8, Heidelberg 4

Senior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) drove in 5 runs and junior righthander Tyler Mott (Grove City) slammed the door on a Heidelberg rally with his first save since 2001 as Ohio Wesleyan defeated the Student Princes in non-conference action on Wednesday in Tiffin.

The Bishops took a 3-0 lead in the second when, with one out, senior third baseman Mark Wherry (Dublin/Scioto) and senior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan) walked. One out later, junior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) plated Wherry with a double, then Falk and Albert scored on a 2-run single by junior second baseman Brad Whitman (Canfield).

Ohio Wesleyan hiked the lead to 6-0 in the seventh on a bases-loaded double by Loudenslager and added 2 more runs in the ninth on Loudenslager's second double of the game.

Heidelberg came back in the bottom of the ninth. Junior lefthander Mike Grady (North Canton/Hoover) got the first out but saw the Student Princes load the bases on a Brock Gankosky double, a walk to Dan Crouse and a single by Brock Mullins. John Cropper doubled in 2 runs and Shaun Galloway followed with an RBI single to bring Heidelberg within 8-3. Junior righthander Byron Lowe (Medford, Mass./Cambridge Ridge) allowed a run on a wild pitch and walked Jon Hatfield before striking out Kyle Leatherman for the second out. Ryan Gelhaus then walked to load the bases and Mott came on and induced Jimmy Williams to line out to end the game.

Freshman lefthander Josh Nice (Hinckley/Highland) was the starting and winning pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan. He pitched 6.2 innings of shutout baseball, striking out 6 and walking 1.

Jeff Long was the starting and losing pitcher for Heidelberg.
