Ohio Wesleyan 10, Otterbein 4

Junior first baseman Tyler Mott (Grove City) drove in 5 runs to help Ohio Wesleyan take a non-conference win over Otterbein on Tuesday in Westerville.

The Bishops jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as senior outfielder Travis Falk (Bryan) singled with one out, moved to second on a ground out and scored on Mott's RBI double. Mott later scored on a grounder by senior third baseman Mark Wherry (Dublin/Scioto) and junior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) plated Wherry with an RBI single later in the inning.

Otterbein loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the inning, but freshman lefthander Josh Nice (Hinckley/Highland) allowed a run on Dustin Lee's double play grounder and got out of the inning without any further damage.

Senior outfielder Joe Loudenslager (Hilliard/Darby) slammed a 2-run homer in the second and the Bishops tacked on 4 more runs in the fourth, with Mott's 3-run circuit clout the key hit in the frame.

Mott added an RBI double in the ninth to finish off his 3-for-5 outing.

Nice pitched the first 6.0 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 2, to pick up his third win in less than a week. Freshman righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) pitched 2 shutout innings of relief and senior righthander Shaun Burchett (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) worked a scoreless ninth.

Wally Theado was the starting and losing pitcher for Otterbein.
