Wooster
2, Ohio Wesleyan 1
Oct. 17, 2002
Alanna
Tryder scored twice to give Wooster a North Coast Athletic Conference
win over Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday at the Henry Street Field.
Wooster took a 1-0 lead with 9:44 left in the first half after the Fighting
Scots had earned a penalty corner. Lindsay Tingley sent a centering pass
toward the cage and Tryder tipped it in for the goal.
Ohio Wesleyan answered just over 3 minutes later when freshman forward
Natalie Pearson (Greenwich, Conn.) sent a pass into a crowd in front of
the Wooster goal and sophomore midfielder Meredith Bynum (Winston-Salem,
N.C./Forsyth Country Day) poked the ball in from point-blank range to
tie the game with 6:16 remaining in the first half.
Wooster went ahead to stay on an unusual goal. From the right side of
the field, Tryder hit the ball toward the Bishop cage. The ball went through
a crowd of Bishop defenders, deflecting off the heel of one of them and
trickling past sophomore goalkeeper Liz Stone (Deep River, Conn./Valley
Regional) and into the left side of the cage with 10:35 left in regulation
time.
Stone finished with 3 saves for Ohio Wesleyan. Beth Skelton had 1 save
for Oberlin. Each team had 7 shots and Ohio Wesleyan had 9 penalty corners
to 7 for the Fighting Scots.
