1st of 10 at Smith Mountain Lake Intercollegiate

March 10-11, 2003

Junior Chad Poling (Delaware/Hayes) led the Bishops to the team title at the Smith Mountain Lake Intercollegiate tournament on Monday and Tuesday in Rocky Mount, Va.

Ohio Wesleyan won the tournament with a total of 625, defeating runner-up Bridgewater by 11 strokes. Hampden-Sydney finished in third place at 644, followed by Randolph-Macon (654), Ferrum (670), Roanoke (672), Shenandoah (673), Lynchburg (683), Apprentice (700) and Emory & Henry (732). Bridgewater's Chuck Whetzel took medalist honors with a 148.

Poling finished second among individuals with a 151, followed by senior Jeremy Meade (Wayland, Mass.) in third place at 156. Junior Adam Pry (Bucyrus/Shelby) finished seventh with a 159, freshman Justin Schroeder (Shelby) tied for ninth place at 161, senior Jay Tilton (Cincinnati/Winton Woods) finished in 33rd place with a 166.
