Ohio Wesleyan 81, Oberlin 48

Junior center Travis Schwab (Medina) scored 8 points during a game-opening 15-3 run and Ohio Wesleyan pulled away late in the first half to take a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena.

After the Bishops' game-opening run, Oberlin came back on the inside scoring of Brandon Crawford and Bosko Tomasevic, cutting the deficit to 17-12 with 9:39 left in the first half. The Yeomen trailed, 22-18, on a Crawford putback with 5:17 left in the period before the Bishops pulled away.

Schwab hit a lay-in and sophomore forward Brandon Cole (Sidney) followed with a pair of free throws before sophomore guard Tyler Reed (Marysville/Fairbanks) hit a jumper in the lane to hike the lead to 28-18. Junior center Charlie Smith (Centerburg) and freshman guard Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) followed with lay-ins and Reed beat the first-half buzzer with a 3-pointer to give the Bishops a 35-21 lead at the intermission.

The Bishops opened the second half with a 15-4 burst, with Reed and senior guard Jason Dopoulos (Strongsville) each scoring twice to lead the way.

Schwab led the Bishops with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Reed finished with 13 points and Cole led the Bishops with 6 assists.

Oberlin was led by Crawford's 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Tomasevic finished with 11 points.
