Wittenberg 68, Ohio Wesleyan 58

Kevin Longley hit back-to-back jumpers to cap a 10-0 second-half run that gave Wittenberg the lead for good and the Tigers went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday in Springfield.

The Bishops had taken a 53-49 lead on a basket by junior center Travis Schwab (Medina) with 6:48 left in regulation time.

But during the next 25 seconds, Wittenberg got one of 2 free throws from Peter Walker and a jumper by Rod Emmons after a Bishop turnover to come within 53-52, and the Tigers took the lead on Kenny Molz's 3-pointer with 5:42 to play. Walker's 2 jumpers, the latter with 3:43 remaining, gave the Tigers a 59-53 lead.

Sophomore forward Brandon Cole (Sidney) sank 3 free throws during the next 20 seconds of play as Ohio Wesleyan closed to within 59-56, but that was as close as the Bishops would get as Wittenberg ended the game with a 9-2 run.

Both teams took the lead in the first half. Wittenberg led by as many as 6 points before Ohio Wesleyan erased that margin, and the Bishops led by 5 points late in the first half on Cole's 3-pointer before the Tigers scored the last bucket to cut the halftime deficit to 30-27.

The Bishops stretched the lead to 8 points early in the second half, saw Wittenberg come back to within a single tally, then built the lead back to 8 points on another 3-pointer by Cole, that one giving Ohio Wesleyan a 51-43 lead with 10:45 to play.

Cole led the Bishops with 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Schwab finished with 12 points despite fouling out in 14 minutes of playing time and sophomore guard Bryan King (Sidney) added 11 points.

Walker led Wittenberg with 17 points and B.J. Harris added 14 points.
