Ohio Wesleyan 78, Oberlin 61

Sophomore guard Bryan King (Sidney) and freshman guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) buried 3-pointers to fuel a 10-2 run early in the second half that broke open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Saturday in Oberlin.

The teams played evenly through most of the first half, with the biggest lead of the first 10 minutes being Ohio Wesleyan's 21-16 advantage on a lay-in by junior center Charlie Smith (Centerburg) with 11:41 to play.

Oberlin bounced back to tie the game at 21-21 but saw the Bishops respond with an 8-1 run of their own, fueled by a 3-pointer by senior guard Kyle Comstock (Sunbury/Buckeye Valley) and a traditional 3-point play by sophomore forward Brandon Cole (Sidney).

Junior center Travis Schwab (Medina) later hiked the lead to 9 points with 4 straight free throws, but Oberlin came back slice the margin to 3 late in the first half.

With the Bishops holding on to a 37-33 lead early in the second half, King buried a 3-pointer to start the Ohio Wesleyan run. Schwab followed with a lay-up and Smith hit a jumper before Rybarczyk sanka 3-pointer for a 47-35 Bishop lead.

Djordje Eremic answered with a 3-pointer for Oberlin, but the Yeomen would not come closer than 8 points during the rest of the game.

Schwab led the Bishops with 30 points, with 18 coming in the first half. King finished with 12 points and Smith had 10 points and led the Bishops with 7 rebounds. Rybarczyk dished out a team-leading 5 assists.

Brandon Crawford led Oberlin with 15 points, Eremic finished with 12 points, Jon MacDonald had 11 points and Bosko Tomasevic added 10 points.
