Capital 72, Ohio Wesleyan 64

Junior center Travis Schwab (Medina) scored 5 points during an 11-2 run that gave the Bishops a 54-46 second-half lead, but Capital answered with an 11-0 burst and went on to hand Ohio Wesleyan a non-conference loss on Saturday in Columbus.

Trailing, 44-43 with 12:36 left in the game, Ohio Wesleyan took the lead on a 3-pointer by sophomore forward Brandon Cole (Sidney). Junior center Charlie Smith (Centerburg) followed with a jumper, sophomore guard Bryan King (Sidney) added a free throw and Schwab hit a lay-in and a 3-pointer to stretch the Bishop lead to 54-46 with 9:26 remaining.

Capital then got a jumper by Tony Ruberg, a pair of Tyler Schleich free throws and a Jake Beck jumper to tie the game at 54-54 with 7:36 left, then took the lead on Mark Denner's 3-pointer a minute later.

The Bishops responded with a Schwab basket, but the Crusaders outscored the Bishops, 7-1, to pad the lead to 62-56 with 5:23 to play and the Bishops were not able to come closer than 5 points during the remainder of the game.

Schwab led the Bishops with 22 points and 9 rebounds, while Cole added 16 points. Freshman guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) led the Bishops with 5 assists.

Beck led Capital with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Geron Tate added 18 points and Ruberg, Denner and Schleich contributed 10 points apiece.
