Ohio Dominican 78, Ohio Wesleyan 71

Mike Lee scored 5 straight points to pad an Ohio Dominican lead and then went 14-for-16 from the line in the final 7:08 to hold the Bishops at bay as Ohio Dominican defeated Ohio Wesleyan in the Battling Bishops' home opener on Thursday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Ohio Wesleyan raced to a 10-2 lead as junior center Travis Schwab (Medina) scored the Bishops' first 6 points and then added another basket after 2 free throws by freshman guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic), but Ohio Dominican came back behind 5 points by Micah Stith and took a 15-14 lead with 8:57 left in the first half.

The Bishops answered with 6 straight points, including a pair of steals and lay-ins by senior guard Kyle Comstock (Sunbury/Buckeye Valley), to take a 20-15 lead and went into the locker room holding a 26-24 lead at halftime.

Stith scored twice in the opening 2 minutes of the second half, giving the Panthers the lead for good at 28-27. Ohio Dominican added to its lead with an 11-5 run, giving the Panthers a 39-32 edge.

The Bishops closed to within 43-38 on a pair of baskets by Schwab, the latter with 12:15 left in the game, but Lee then hit a driving lay-in and followed with a 3-pointer to extend the Ohio Dominican lead to 48-38 with 10:59 remaining.

Ohio Wesleyan battled back to within 6 points on a pair of occasions, the latter on Schwab's jumper from the lane with 3:51 to play, but the Panthers scored the next 7 points to put the game out of reach.

Schwab led the Bishops with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Comstock finished with 17 points and Rybarczyk scored 15 points. Comstock, Rybarczyk and sophomore guard Tyler Reed (Marysville/Fairbanks) shared the team lead with 2 assists apiece.

Ohio Dominican was led by Lee's 25 points while Eric Jenkins added 16 and Stith 10. Stith led the Panthers with 9 rebounds and Lee had a team-high 2 assists.
