Ohio Wesleyan 66, Rose-Hulman 60

Junior center Travis Schwab (Medina) scored a career-high 35 points to lead Ohio
Wesleyan over Rose-Hulman in the first round of the Bill Merris Tip-Off Classic hosted by Illinois College on Saturday in Jacksonville, Ill.

Ohio Wesleyan will face Dominican (Ill.) in Sunday's championship game. Dominican nipped Illinois College, 63-61, in Saturday's other first-round game.

Schwab and sophomore forward Brandon Cole (Sidney) scored to break a 23-23 tie and give the Bishops a 27-23 halftime lead. Ohio Wesleyan then opened the second half with a 12-3 burst to pad its lead to 39-26 with 15:05 left in regulation time.

The Bishops still led, 62-52, with 2:01 left to play when the Engineers made a comeback. Jason Ludwig drilled a 3-pointer to cut the margin to 7 points, and after Schwab hit 1 of 3 free throws with :58 to play, Jon Query sank 3 free throws to bring Rose-Hulman within 63-58 with :47 to go.

Rose-Hulman's Munchie Muskeyvalley scored after a Bishop turnover as the Engineers came within 63-60 with :32 left, but freshman guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) sank a free throw with :27 left and Schwab buried 2 free throws with :06 left to seal the win.

Schwab's 35 points led all players, while his 11 rebounds matched Cole for the team lead. Cole also contributed 14 points. Rybarczyk led the Bishops with 6 assists.

Brian Bibb led the Engineers with 13 points, followed by Philip Griffith with 12 points and Evan Ballinger with 10 points.
