Dec.
29, 2002
Junior center Charlie Smith (Centerburg) converted a 3-point
play to break a 9-9 tie and put the Bishops ahead to stay in a win over
Thiel in the first round of the Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic hosted
by Randolph-Macon College on Sunday in Ashland, Va.
Ohio Wesleyan will face Randolph-Macon in Monday's championship game.
Randolph-Macon defeated Alfred, 93-55, in Sunday's other first-round game.
Junior
center Travis Schwab (Medina) followed Smith's 3-point play with a lay-in
and sophomore guard Bryan King (Sidney) hit a 3-pointer to hike the Bishop
lead to 17-9 with 12:18 left in the first half.
Ohio Wesleyan led by as many as 15 points in the first half and took a
41-28 halftime lead. The Tomcats reduced the deficit to nine points, 41-32,
at the start of the second half but that was as close as Thiel would get.

led the Bishops with game highs of 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocked
shots and added 3 assists. King added 21 points, going 7-for-8 from the
field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Sophomore forward Brandon
