Wittenberg 71, Ohio Wesleyan 52

Tiffany Keller and Meghan Bruggeman had 6 points apiece and Stephanie Campbell added 5 points as Wittenberg closed the first half with a 31-9 run and went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Branch Rickey Arena.

The Bishops opened the game strong, taking a 14-7 lead midway through the first half as junior post Tiffany Barbee (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) led the way with 3 layups and senior post Mindy Hammond (Columbus/DeSales) added a couple of baskets. During the first 10 minutes of the half, Wittenberg did not hit a single shot outside of 5 feet. The Tigers' only 2 baskets came on a Kate Rolf steal and lay-in and a follow shot by Haley Warden.

But the final 10 minutes of the half were an entire different story. Bruggeman, Warden and Campbell each scored to start off a 19-3 run. Keller hit a lay-in to put the Tigers ahead, 15-14, then followed with a jumper less than a minute later.

Ohio Wesleyan tied the game on a 3-pointer by junior guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta), but Keller hit a lay-in that started a 9-0 run that put Wittenberg ahead to stay. The Tigers extended their lead to 38-23 at halftime, then opened the second half with a 12-3 run for a 50-26 lead just over 5 minutes into the second half.

Barbee led the Bishops with 15 points, while sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) added 13 points and led the Bishops with 3 assists and Hammond finished with 12 points and led the Bishops with 7 rebounds.

Rebecca Meers led the Tigers with 18 points, Rolf scored 14 points and led Wittenberg with 8 rebounds and 7 assists, and Stephanie Campbell added 10 points.
