Ohio Wesleyan 63, Hiram 43

Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) scored back-to-back baskets to kick off an 11-0 game-opening run and Ohio Wesleyan went on to defeat Hiram in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday in Hiram.

Heil canned a jumper on the Bishops' first possession and then scored on a fast break after a steal by senior post Mindy Hammond (Columbus/DeSales) 15 seconds later.

Hammond followed with a lay-in of her own, then Heil hit 2 free throws and junior guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) completed the 11-0 burst with a 3-pointer with 16:01 left in the first half.

Hiram closed to within 15-7 and later to within 21-12, the latter on a 3-point play by Tiffany Tompkins with 10:12 left in the first half, but that would be the last time that the Bishop lead dropped below double digits.

Heil answered with a 3-pointer, sophomore post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) added 2 baskets and Hammond sank 2 free throws during a 9-0 run that hiked the Bishop advantage to 30-12. Ohio Wesleyan would lead by as many as 22 points during the first half and took a 38-18 lead into the locker room. The Bishops' biggest lead of the second half was 25 points.

Brizendine led the Bishops with 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Heil finished with 14 points and 7 assists and Hammond led the Bishops with 7 assists.

Terra Roane led the Tigers with 15 points and Johanna Wight added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
