Ohio Wesleyan 56, Kenyon 43

Junior post Tiffany Barbee (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) scored 6 points during a 12-4 second-half run that broke open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Friday at Branch Rickey Arena.

With the Bishops leading, 38-32, with just under 9 minutes to play, Barbee hit a jumper from the lane to start off the streak. Sophomore post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) followed with a lay-in before Barbee added a putback and a layup to offset Kenyon baskets by Katy Zeanah and Lauren Camp. Sophomore post Shelby Larson (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) added a basket and senior post Mindy Hammond (Columbus/DeSales) sank 2 free throws to hike the Bishop lead to 50-36 with 4:04 remaining.

Kenyon responded with a 3-point play by Beth Lye with 3:11 on the clock, cutting the deficit to 50-39, but the Ladies scored only twice during the rest of the game.

The Bishops spotted Kenyon a 3-0 lead on an Eileen Wittman 3-pointer on the Ladies' first possession of the game, then roared back to take an 8-4 lead with Brizendine scoring twice along the way. Kenyon came back to take a 9-8 lead on Dana Halicki's drive with 12:18 left in the first half, but the Ladies would score only 2 more baskets during the rest of the half and finished the first half having made 5 of 27 shots from the field, for 18.5 percent.

Despite their frosty shooting, the Ladies trailed 23-16 at halftime and climbed back into the game with a 10-4 burst to start the second half. Allison Lebar sank a pair of layups and Beth Lye's 2 free throws brought Kenyon to within 27-26 with 14:39 left in the game.

Ohio Wesleyan countered with a pair of Brizendine free throws and a 3-point play by Hammond, then added 2 Larson free throws and a Barbee lay-in for a 36-28 advantage.

Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) led the Bishops with 18 points, while Brizendine and Barbee finished with 10 points apiece and shared the team lead with 7 boards each. Hammond led the Bishops with 4 assists.

Lye led the Ladies with 10 points.
