Ohio Wesleyan 60, Allegheny 55

Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) scored 10 points during a 12-0 spurt that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and the Bishops went on to defeat Allegheny in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

The win clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCAC tournament for Ohio Wesleyan. NCAC tournament matchups.

With the Bishops trailing, 34-28, with 16:21 left in the second half, Heil took over. She and sophomore post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) sank lay-ins during the next minute to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 34-32, then Heil scored 4 straight hoops over the next 5 minutes to give the Bishops a 40-34 lead with 9:38 to play.

Raelynn Miles scored to break Allegheny's scoreless string at 7 minutes, slicing the deficit to 40-36. The Gators crept to within 47-44 on a 3-pointer by Valery Medwid with 6:07 remaining and pared the margin to 2 points at 51-49 on Caitlin Murtagh's 3-pointer with 3:56 left, but the Bishops answered with a free throw and a basket by Brizendine to hike the lead back up to 5 points.

Ohio Wesleyan put the game away at the free throw line, with junior guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) and junior post Tiffany Barbee (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) each hitting a free throw and Heil adding 2 more.

Heil led the Bishops with 22 points, while Brizendine finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Barbee led the Bishops with 8 rebounds and Sensabaugh led the Bishops with 4 assists.

Medwid led the Gators with 10 points. Meredith McDonough had a team-high 8 rebounds.
