Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) buried a 3-pointer
to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay and the Bishops pulled away in the
first half to knock off Milwaukee School of Engineering in the consolation
game of the Defiance Clinic Women's Collegiate Invitational on Sunday
in Defiance.
Trailing, 8-7, the Bishops took the lead for good on Heil's 3-pointer
with 14:09 left in the first half. That basket started a 30-10 run that
gave Ohio Wesleyan a 37-18 lead with 2:06 left in the half. Heil scored
16 points during that spurt, including a trio of 3-pointers and a 3-point
play.
The Raiders did not come closer than 14 points during the second half.
Heil led the Bishops with 24 points, while junior post Tiffany Barbee
(Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) added 12 points and grabbed a team-high
10 rebounds. Junior
point guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) had a team-high 9 assists.
Amber Gordon led MSOE with 17 points and Laurel Wipperfurth had a team-leading
7 rebounds.
Heil represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team. She was joined
on the all-tournament team by Gordon, Seton Hill's Kameico Robinson and
Denishia Salters, and Defiance's Mandy Eberle and Anna Fretz. Fretz was
named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
