Ohio Wesleyan 70, Ohio Northern 68

Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) drilled a 3-pointer to put the Bishops ahead to stay and senior post Jennifer Heil (Sylvania/Southview) made a pair of key baskets down the stretch as Ohio Wesleyan held off an Ohio Northern comeback to take a non-conference win on Saturday at Ada.

With the Bishops trailing, 42-38, early in the second half, sophomore guard Angela Gibson (Marysville) scored before Kelly Heil's 3-pointer put Ohio Wesleyan ahead, 43-42, with 14:11 left in the game. The Bishops followed with a bucket by sophomore post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) and a pair of free throws by junior post Tiffany Barbee (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) to pad the lead to 5 points.

Ohio Wesleyan led by 10 points, holding a 60-50 edge with 4:26 left, and still had a 64-55 lead on Barbee's basket with 3:19 to play when the Polar Bears clawed back.

Kendra Bailey scored and Meredith VanDyck had a free throw and a basket over the next minute-plus, then Bailey converted a 3-point play to slice the deficit to one point at 64-63 with 1:44 left.

But Jennifer Heil scored on Ohio Wesleyan's next possession, and after Ohio Northern answered with a Alyssa Ricker basket, Jennifer Heil scored again to hike the lead back to 3 points.

Junior post Kristin Thompson (Logan) added 2 free throws with :10 left, allowing the Bishops to withstand a 3-pointer by Bailey with :05 to play and hold on for the 2-point win.

Kelly Heil led the Bishops with 19 points, Barbee followed with 15, Brizendine scored 14 and Jennifer Heil finished with 10. Brizendine, Jennifer Heil, Kelly Heil and Barbee shared the team lead with 6 rebounds apiece and junior point guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) had a team-high 5 assists.

Bailey led the Polar Bears with 23 points and Rickert followed with 15 points. VanDyck led Ohio Northern with 7 rebounds.
