Bethany 66, Ohio Wesleyan 61

Nikki Babik hit 6 straight free throws down the stretch as Bethany held off an Ohio Wesleyan comeback and defeated the Bishops in first-round play of the Bethany Holiday Classic on Friday in Bethany, W.Va.

The Bison took the lead for good when Kelley Richardson sank a pair of free throws to break a 44-44 tie with 8:58 left in regulation time.

Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) hit a free throw to bring the Bishops within 46-45, but Bethany answered with a basket by Katie Tetzlaw and a 3-pointer by Katie Hardie to take a 51-45 lead with 7:52 remaining.

Ohio Wesleyan came within 1 point on 3 occasions, the last time when Heil's lay-in brought the Bishops with 60-59 with 1:13 to play. Tetzlaw then missed 2 free throws and Hardie snared the offensive rebound but missed a follow shot, giving Ohio Wesleyan the ball with a chance to take the lead, but the Bishops turned the ball over before getting a shot off, and Babik then sealed the game from the line.

Heil led the Bishops with 25 points and 13 rebounds and shared the team lead with 4 assists. Junior guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) also shared the team lead with 4 assists.

Hardie led the Bison with 26 points and added 10 rebounds. Babik finished with 14 points, going 8-for-8 from the line, and Richardson led Bethany with 12 rebounds.
