Washington & Jefferson 66, Ohio Wesleyan 46

Amanda Stanonik converted a 3-point play to break a 16-16 tie and highlight a 12-0 run that put Washington & Jefferson ahead to stay and the Presidents went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in second round play of the Bethany Holiday Classic on Saturday in Bethany, W.Va.

Sophomore wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview) had drilled a 3-pointer to give Ohio Wesleyan a 16-14 lead with 12:31 left in the first half before W&J's Rachel Armitage scored on the Presidents' next possession to tie the game at 16-16.

Stanonik followed her 3-point play by making one of 2 free throws and Leigh Sulkowski, Stanonik and Armitage added baskets for a 26-16 President lead with 8:46 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan whittled the deficit to 6 points on a Heil 3-pointer with 3:58 left in the first half, making the score 31-25, Washington & Jefferson, but the Presidents scored the final 6 points of the half to take a 37-25 lead into the locker room and did not allow the Bishops to come closer than 10 points during the second half.

Heil led the Bishops with 19 points, while sophomore post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) added 12 points and led the Bishops with 7 rebounds. Junior guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) led the Bishops with 7 assists.

Sulkowski led the Presidents with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Lauren Hall added 11 points and Shawndra scored 11 points and led Washington & Jefferson with 10 assists.

Heil represented the Bishops on the Bethany Holiday Classic all-tournament team.
