Albion 6, Ohio Wesleyan 5

Sophomore outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) slammed a 2-run homer to stake the Bishops to a 5-2 lead, but Albion rallied for 4 runs in the sixth inning to escape with a win in non-conference play on Tuesday in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Bishops broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning as junior catcher Paul Suhar (Canfield) led off with a double and scored on a single by senior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby). Toney followed with a home run to left center to make the score 5-2.

Senior lefthander Mike Grady (North Canton/Hoover) pitched the first 5.0 innings, scattering 6 hits and walking 3 while striking out 2 and was replaced by freshman righthander Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) to open the sixth.

Brian Sayers led off the Briton sixth with a single and Bryan Smith followed with a single. Evan Rodriguez bunted the runners over to second and third and Bret Gove followed with a double to left that scored Sayers. Smith had to hold at second on the play, leaving Albion runners at second and third with 1 out.

Ring got Mark Flancbaum to pop up for the second out but was touched for RBI singles by Matt Cook and Chris Trott to tie the game. Senior righthander Byron Lowe (Medford, Mass./Cambridge Ridge) came on to pitch and got ahead 0-2 on Mike Cieszkowski, but Cieszkowski lined a ball through the left side to plate the go-ahead run.

Ohio Wesleyan challenged in the seventh when Toney lined a 2-out single and senior designated hitter Tyler Mott (Grove City) drew a walk, but Jonathan Hastings struck out Lowe to end the game.

Albert and Toney each went 3-for-4 to highlight the Bishop offense. Ring was charged with the pitching decision.
