Ohio Wesleyan 11, Heidelberg 7

March 24, 2004

Freshman outfielder Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto), senior third baseman Andy Busch (Westerville/South) and senior outfielder Byron Lowe (Medford, Mass./Cambridge Ridge) drove in 3 runs apiece to lead Ohio Wesleyan over Heidelberg in non-conference action on Wednesday at Littick Field.

Sherman staked the Bishops to a 2-0 lead with a 2-run homer in the first inning, scoring senior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby), who had led off the frame with a single.

Heidelberg closed to within 2-1 on Travis Tocco's RBI single in the top of the second.

Ohio Wesleyan countered with 4 runs in the bottom of the third, with Sherman rapping an RBI double, freshman first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) driving in a run with a ground out and Busch finishing off the rally with a 2-run homer down the leftfield line.

Jon Hatfield hit a 2-run homer in the fifth to bring the Student Princes within 6-3, but Ohio Wesleyan tacked on 5 runs in the bottom of the inning.

With 2 outs, Sherman singled, then stole second and continued to third on Tocco's throwing error. Bottichio followed with a walk before Busch and senior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) recorded consecutive RBI singles. Lowe wrapped up the inning with a majestic 3-run homer to left center.

Tocco drove in a run in the sixth and Jimmy Williams and A.J. Schlea had RBI singles in the seventh for Heidelberg.

Sophomore righthander Adam Dunn (Westerville/Worthington Christian), the third of 3 Ohio Wesleyan pitchers, was credited with the win. He pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing 3 hits and no runs. Sophomore righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) started and allowed 3 runs over the first 4.1 innings, and senior lefthander Mike Grady (North Canton/Hoover) allowed 6 hits and 4 runs during the next 2.2 innings.

Matt Decker was the starting and losing pitcher for Heidelberg.
