Senior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) lined a 2-run double to put the Bishops ahead to stay and freshman second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) and senior outfielder Byron Lowe (Medford, Mass./Cambridge Ridge) hit 2-run homers during an 8-run sixth inning that lifted Ohio Wesleyan over Ohio Dominican in non-conference action on Wednesday at Littick Field.

Ohio Wesleyan built a 9-3 lead after 4 innings of play. Freshman first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) slammed a 3-run homer in the first, sophomore shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) and Sherman drove in runs to highlight a 3-run second and senior designated hitter Tyler Mott (Grove City) and Bottichio drew bases-loaded walks and sophomore outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to plate 3 more runs in the fourth.

Ohio Dominican rallied in the fifth as the Panthers had their first 5 batters score. The crowning blow was a 3-run homer by Arnoldo Rodriguez that knocked out senior righthander Shaun Burchett (Plain City/Jonathan Alder). Senior lefthander Mike Grady (North Canton/Hoover) came on in relief and got out of the inning after allowing a run that tied the game at 9-9.

The top of the order put the Bishops ahead in the bottom of the fifth as Albert was hit by a pitch, Williams followed with a single and Sherman singled home Albert to give Ohio Wesleyan a 10-9 lead, but Ohio Dominican took the lead back on Kyle Moore's 3-run homer in the top of the sixth.

With one out in the bottom of the sixth and the Bishops trailing, 12-10, senior third baseman Andy Busch (Westerville/South) was hit by a pitch. Senior catcher Mike Schultheis (Columbus/Watterson) followed with a double to left center. Junior outfielder Matt Strasburg (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) then grounded to third, but the Panthers tried to cut down Busch at the plate and all runners were safe. Albert followed with a double to left center, scoring Schultheis and Strasburg and giving Ohio Wesleyan a 13-12 lead. Williams then singled down the leftfield line, scoring Albert and knocking out Panther reliever Nick Kelley.

Sherman greeted Panther reliever Matt Koblens with a 2-run homer to right center, and after Mott singled, Lowe lashed a homer to rightfield to cap the 8-run Bishop outburst.

Ohio Dominican added single runs in the seventh and ninth.

Sherman and Bottichio drove in 4 runs apiece for Ohio Wesleyan, while Albert scored 4 times.

Grady was the winning pitcher in relief. He scattered 6 hits over the final 5.0 innings while striking out 5 and walking 2.

Kelley was charged with the loss for Ohio Dominican.
