Thomas More 12, Ohio Wesleyan 3

Thomas More took a 2-0 first-inning lead and broke the game open with 6 runs in the second on the way to a non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Thursday at Crestview Hills, Ky.

Brad Thoma singled in a run in the first inning as the Saints took advantage of 2 Bishop errors. In the second, Blake Burcham lined an RBI single and Scott Vetter had a 2-run single before Doug Vetter lofted a sacrifice fly and Thoma had another RBI single.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the fifth on a double by senior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) and an RBI single by freshman outfielder Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto).

The Bishops added 2 runs in the seventh on a single by senior third baseman Andy Busch (Westerville/South), a single by sophomore second baseman Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) and a 2-run triple by junior outfielder Matt Strasburg (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton).

Thoma wrapped up the Thomas More scoring with a leadoff homer in the eighth.

Williams had 2 hits to highlight the Bishop offense.

Senior lefthander Mike Grady (North Canton/Hoover) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman righthander Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) worked 5.0 innings in relief, allowing 5 hits and one earned run. Senior righthander Byron Lowe (Medford, Mass./Cambridge Ridge) finished up on the mound.

Donny Capannari was the starting and winning pitcher for Thomas More.
