Division I entity Ohio University broke open a close game with 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth and held off an Ohio Wesleyan comeback to take a non-conference decision over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at Athens.

Dan Lunsford and Ben Crabtree had RBI singles to highlight a 3-run first inning for the Bobcats.

Ohio Wesleyan answered with a run in the second when freshman outfielder Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) singled, freshman first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) walked, the runners moved up on a double steal and Sherman scored on an RBI ground out by senior designated hitter Tyler Mott (Grove City).

The Bobcats got that run back on Anthony Gressick's solo homer in the third and made it a 5-1 game on Phil Sabatini's RBI single in the fifth, but Ohio Wesleyan responded in the sixth.

Senior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) singled and Sherman followed with a single, with the runners moving up to second and third on an error by Bobcat first baseman Crabtree. Bottichio followed with a single up the middle, scoring both runners.

Ohio University then got 5 runs in the bottom of the inning, with B. White's 2-run triple capping the frame.

The Bishops added 2 runs in the seventh on an RBI single by sophomore second baseman Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) and Sherman's RBI ground out, then closed to within 10-7 with 2 runs in the ninth on Williams' 2-run single.

Williams went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI to highlight the Bishop offense. Albert, Sherman, Mott and senior third baseman Andy Busch (Westerville/South) each collected 2 hits.

Gressick was 4-for-5 with 2 RBI for Ohio.

Sophomore righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Rob Harmon was the starting and winning pitcher for Ohio.
