Sophomore second baseman Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman), senior designated hitter Tyler Mott (Grove City), senior catcher Andy Busch (Westerville/South) and freshman first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason) drove in 2 runs apiece as Ohio Wesleyan topped Mount Vernon Nazarene in non-conference play on Tuesday in Mount Vernon.

The Bishops jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as freshman outfielder Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) lashed a 2-out triple and scored on Busch's single.

Ohio Wesleyan increased its lead to 3-0 in the third. Mott led off with a single and advanced to second on an error by Cougar leftfielder Tim Martini. One out later, Busch drilled a double down the leftfield line, scoring Mott, and Busch then scored on Bottichio's single up the middle.

The Cougars got one run back in the bottom of the inning when Dan Matheney reached second on a 2-out error by senior third baseman Shaun Burchett (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) and scored on Andrew Thompson's single.

The Bishops made it 5-1 in the sixth. Sophomore outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice by senior second baseman Brad Whitman (Canfield), took third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball. Burchett then walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Williams' double.

Ohio Wesleyan broke the game open with 8 runs in the seventh. Mott led off with a single and, one out later, Busch walked to move Mott to second. Bottichio followed with a double to left center, scoring Mott, and both Busch and Bottichio scored on a throwing error by Cougar shortstop Chris McKinney. Toney followed with a single, then Whitman and senior outfielder Mike Albert (Shelby) walked to load the bases. Burchett walked to force in a run, then Williams lofted a sacrifice fly for the fifth run of the inning. Mott followed with a 2-run double to make it 12-1 and scored on McKinney's throwing error on Sherman's fielder's choice.

Mount Vernon Nazarene posted 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to account for the 13-3 final.

Sophomore lefthander Josh Nice (Hinckley/Highland) worked the complete game for the Bishops, scattering 5 hits over 7.0 innings and striking out 5 while walking 3. All 3 runs he allowed were unearned.
