Ohio Wesleyan 78, Kenyon 56

Senior post Travis Schwab (Medina) scored 5 points to highlight a 13-2 run that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay, then scored 8 points during a 12-0 burst that helped break open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Saturday in Gambier.

Senior post Charlie Smith (Centerburg) scored to break a 5-5 tie just over 4 minutes into the game and sophomore guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) followed with a lay-in before Schwab converted a 3-point play to give the Bishops a 12-5 lead with 14:58 left in the first half.

Schwab added another lay-in, freshman wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Watterson) nailed a 3-pointer and junior post Brandon Reid (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) added a free throw to hike the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 18-7.

Kenyon rallied behind the scoring of Derrick Herman and Arlen Galloway, closing the deficit to 19-14 with 8:21 left in the first half, but Ohio Wesleyan came back with 3 straight baskets by Schwab, a pair of Smith free throws and lay-ins by Schwab and Rybarczyk to take a 31-14 lead with 3:13 to play.

Aaron Stancik hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, bringing Kenyon to within 10 points, but that was as close as the Lords would come as sophomore wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) sank consecutive 3-pointers to jump-start the Bishop offense.

Schwab led the Bishops with 22 points, while Rybarczyk followed with 14 points and a team-high 6 assists. Smith finished with 11 points and freshman post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) scored 10 points. Junior guard Bryan King (Sidney) led the Bishops with 7 rebounds.

Herman led Kenyon with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Matt Formato added 14 points and led the Lords with 5 assists and Galloway finished with 12 points.
