Ohio Wesleyan 81, Oberlin 67

Sophomore guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) hit a 3-pointer and senior post Travis Schwab (Medina) converted a 3-point play to cap a 10-0 run that broke open a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Oberlin on Wednesday night at Oberlin.

Oberlin had closed to within 40-38 on Bosko Tomasevic's jumper with 18:09 left in regulation time before Schwab and senior post Charlie Smith (Centerburg) responded with baskets. Rybarczyk's 3-pointer and Schwab's 3-point play capped the Bishop run, which extended the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 50-38 with 14:54 left in regulation time. The Yeomen would not come closer than 10 points during the remainder of the game.

The Bishops jumped to a 4-0 lead on a pair of Schwab baskets, then extended the lead to 11-4 as Smith hit a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer and junior wing Tyler Reed (Marysville/Fairbanks) added a basket.

Chris Ikpoh helped rally the Yeomen, hitting a 3-pointer and converting a 3-point play to bring Oberlin within 25-20 with 7:52 left in the first half.

Schwab answered with a 3-pointer for Ohio Wesleyan and freshman post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) added consecutive baskets to give the Bishops their biggest lead of the first half, a 32-20 lead with 6:03 to play.

Oberlin rallied with a 10-0 run, collecting a 3-pointer by Alex Malone, baskets by Ikpoh and Cameron Leverett and a 3-pointer by Julius Hill to close the deficit to 32-30 with 2:53 left in the first half. Hill drilled another 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the half to make the halftime score 38-36 in favor of Ohio Wesleyan.

Smith and Tomasevic traded baskets to open the second-half scoring, setting up the Bishops' 10-0 run.

Schwab led the Bishops with 26 points and shared the team lead with 5 assists. Chojnacki followed with 12 points and led the Bishops with 8 rebounds, and Smith added 11 points. Rybarczyk also shared the team lead with 5 assists.

Ikpoh led Oberlin with 21 points and 7 rebounds. Malone finished with 16 points and Tomasevic added 15 points.
