Ohio Wesleyan 70, Allegheny 54

Senior post Travis Schwab (Medina) scored 6 straight points and senior post Charlie Smith (Centerburg), junior guard Bryan King (Sidney) and freshman wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Watterson) each hit 3-pointers during a 21-0 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Allegheny on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.

The Gators opened the scoring with a 3-pointer by Billy Dungee less than a minute into the game.

Ohio Wesleyan followed with jumpers by sophomore guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) and junior wing Tyler Reed (Marysville/Fairbanks) to take a 4-3 lead with 16:54 left in the first half before Smith's 3-pointer and 3 straight layins by Schwab extended the Bishop lead to 13-3.

King and Uritus followed with 3-pointers and Smith capped the Bishop run with a lay-in that gave Ohio Wesleyan a 21-3 lead with 10:31 left in the first half.

Matt Majzlik finally ended the Allegheny drought by hitting a jumper with 8:38 to play in the first half.

Schwab responded with 9 straight points, draining a pair of 3-pointers and adding a free throw and a lay-in to hike the Bishop lead to 30-5 with 6:20 left in the period.

Allegheny rallied with a barrage of 3-pointers, getting long-range shots from Matt Magnusen, Mike Sefscik and J.J. Wilson to close to within 34-20 at halftime, and the Gators sliced the deficit to 10 points when Magnusen opened the second half with a 3-pointer, then hit the second of 2 free throws with 18:33 left.

Ohio Wesleyan went on a 9-0 run midway through the half to push its lead out to 22 points at 55-33 with 10:54 to play.

Schwab led the Bishops with 29 points and 11 rebounds. King finished with 13 points and Rybarczyk led the Bishops with 6 assists.

Magnusen led Allegheny with 15 points and Majzlik and Wilson added 11 points apiece. Ian Gainor led the Gators with 8 rebounds.
