Ohio Wesleyan 100, Grace Bible 85

Senior post Charlie Smith (Centerburg) scored twice as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 12-1 run and went on to top Grace Bible in the consolation game of the Calvin Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Junior guard Tyler Reed (Marysville/Fairbanks) opened the scoring with a 3-pointer, and after Grace Bible's Aaron Huizenga hit the second of 2 free throws to make it 3-1, Smith scored back-to-back baskets to give the Bishops a 7-1 lead.

Freshman post Ben Chojnacki (Medina) converted a 3-point play and sophomore guard Ross Rybarczyk (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) sank a pair of free throws to give the Bishops a 12-1 lead less than 3 minutes into the game.

Grace Bible did not come closer than 9 points during the remainder of the game. The Bishops led by as many as 22 points on the way to a 56-36 halftime lead, and while Grace Bible was able to come within 9 points during the second half, that was as close as the Saints would come.

Chojnacki scored 28 points to lead a parade of 6 Ohio Wesleyan players in double figures. Reed finished with 17 points, sophomore wing Andy Warnock (Delaware/Hayes) and freshman wing Ted Uritus (Columbus/Watterson) added 13 points apiece, junior guard Bryan King (Sidney) had 12 points and Smith ended up with 10 points. Chojnacki and Warnock shared the team lead with 11 rebounds apiece and Uritus led the Bishops with 6 assists.

Kenny VanRyn led Grace Bible with 22 points and 10 assists, while Huizenga added 18 points and a team-high 8 rebounds and Corey Nederveld had 10 points.

Chojnacki represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.
