Ohio Wesleyan 14, Lynchburg 11

Sophomore attacker Jarred Law (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) had a goal and an assist as Ohio Wesleyan broke a 7-7 tie with a 3-0 run and went on to defeat fifth-ranked Lynchburg in non-conference play on Saturday at Selby Field.

The Battling Bishops had taken a 5-2 first-quarter lead, with freshman attacker Brian McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) leading the way with a goal and an assist, but Lynchburg tied the game at 6-6 late in the second quarter as Brandon Childs had 2 goals.

Law gave Ohio Wesleyan a 7-6 lead with a goal with :53 left in the first half, but the Hornets evened the game on a score by Kevin Reinecke in the opening seconds of the third quarter.

Law then set up junior attacker Jason Balmer (Chester Springs, Pa./Forman School) to put the Bishops ahead to stay, then scored to make it a 9-7 game. Sophomore midfielder Chris Riehl (Columbus/Upper Arlington) followed with a goal to give the Bishops a 10-7 lead midway through the third quarter.

Lynchburg closed to within 10-9 and 11-10, but the Bishops put the game away with a pair of goals by Brian McCommons, the second of which gave Ohio Wesleyan a 14-10 lead with 1:01 to play.

Childs finished off the day's scoring with a goal just before the final buzzer.

Balmer, Law and Brian McCommons led the Bishops with 3 goals apiece. Law dished out 2 assists and McCommons had one assist. Junior attacker John Schlegel (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) added a goal and 2 assists and sophomore midfielder Tim Robertson (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) scored 2 goals.

Reinecke had 5 goals and an assist to lead the Hornets. Childs added 3 goals and an assist and Billy McCulloch had 2 assists.

Junior Paul McCommons (Smyrna, Del./Dover) had 14 saves in the Bishop goal. Nick Braun had 8 saves in the Lynchburg goal.
