Ohio Wesleyan 79, Hiram 43

Junior post Erica Brizendine (Grove City) scored 6 points as the Bishops opened the game with a 16-2 run and went on to defeat Hiram in North Coast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Hiram.

Brizendine opened the game's scoring with a lay-up in the first minute of play, and after freshman post Tifini Ray (Hilliard/Davidson) hit a pair of free throws, Brizendine hit another lay-in to hike the lead to 6-0.

Hiram got on the scoreboard with a jumper by Amanda Hummel with 18:14 on the clock, but the Bishops answered with a 3-pointer by junior wing Kelly Heil (Sylvania/Southview), a lay-in by senior guard Krystal Sensabaugh (Wapakoneta) and a free throw by junior guard Celina Dopoulos (Strongsville). Baskets by Brizendine and Heil extended Ohio Wesleyan's lead to 16-2 with 16:10 left in the first half.

Ohio Wesleyan stretched its lead to 32-7 before Hiram came back in the latter stages of the first half. Led by a pair of Hummel 3-pointers, the Terriers closed to within 34-21 at halftime.

Heil then fueled an 18-0 run to open the second half and ice the game. Heil started the spurt with a pair of lay-ins and converted a 4-point play later on during the stretch, while Brizendine and Ray added 2 baskets apiece.

Heil led the Bishops with 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, while Brizendine finished with 12 points and led the Bishops with 8 rebounds. Ray added 10 points and Sensabaugh led the Bishops with 4 assists.

Hummel led Hiram with 15 points and Jessica Harris had a team-high 11 rebounds.
