May 15, 2004

Sophomore Kelly Glassburn (Westerville/Columbus DeSales) was defeated in the first round of the NCAA Division III women's tennis singles championship on Saturday at Rhodes College in Memphis.

Glassburn was defeated by Jolyn Taylor of Emory by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Taylor is the No. 2 singles player for the Eagles, who won the NCAA Division III team championship on Friday. Taylor also is a member of the defending NCAA Division III doubles championship team.

Glassburn was the first Ohio Wesleyan women's tennis player to compete in the NCAA tournament since 1996, when Kristen Sherrill made the last of her 2 national tournament appearances.

She finished the spring season with a record of 10-2. Glassburn was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year this spring.
