Ohio Wesleyan 18, MacMurray 2

March 11, 2005

Junior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman), junior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) and freshman catcher Eric Stitzlein (Loudonville) belted home runs during an 8-run fourth inning that sent Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a non-conference win over MacMurray on Friday in Cape Coral, Fla.

Sophomore second baseman Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto) put the Bishops on the scoreboard in the first inning when he was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a single by
senior catcher Matt Strasburg (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton).

Strasburg delivered an RBI single and junior third baseman Sammy Hall (
North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) lashed a 2-run single to give the Bishops a 4-0 lead in the third.

Sophomore
first baseman Steve Toneatti (Ramsey, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal) led off the Bishop fourth with a walk and Sherman followed with a walk before Toney cleared the bases with a blast to centerfield. Toney followed with a circuit clout to right.

One out later,
freshman outfielder Wes Desmond (Frisco, Texas/MacArthur) was hit by a pitch and freshman designated hitter Caleb Douce (Caledonia/River Valley) walked before Stitzlein slammed a 3-run shot to right center to give the Bishops an 11-0 lead. Toneatti followed with a double and scored on Sherman's single to cap the 8-run uprising.

Meanwhile, junior righthander Michael Krieger (Boardman) was silencing the Highlander bats. Krieger pitched 7.0 innings of shutout baseball, facing only 2 batters over the minimum. He struck out 11 and allowed 2 hits. Sophomore lefthander Patrick Cantlin (Shaker Heights) worked a scoreless eighth and freshman righthander Nick Horn (Dublin/Scioto) pitched the ninth.

Toney went 3-for-4 to highlight the Bishop offense. Sherman, freshman outfielder Josh Wheeler (Columbus/Dublin Scioto), Strasburg and Stitzlein had 2 hits apiece.

John Lusicic was the starting and losing pitcher for MacMurray
. He allowed 10 runs during the first 3.2 innings.
