March 20, 2005

Freshman outfielder A.J. Dote (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) lined an RBI single to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay as the Bishops topped John Carroll in non-conference action on Sunday at Littick Field.

Junior shortstop Brandon Williams (
Dublin/Coffman) staked the Bishops to an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the first, and Ohio Wesleyan added a run later in the frame when junior outfielder Adam Toney (Galloway/Westland) tripled and scored on a double by sophomore first baseman Tom Bottichio (Mason.)

Williams struck again in the third, slamming another solo shot to increase the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 3-0.

John Carroll answered in the top of the fourth, tying the game at 3-3 on a pair of walks and a 3-run shot by Eric Floriani.

Ohio Wesleyan came right back in the bottom of the inning when j
unior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy) smacked a one-out single, stole second and scored on Dote's single to center.

Williams contributed an RBI single in the fifth, then moved around the bases and scored on 3 Blue Streak wild pitches as the Bishops took a 6-3 lead, then Hall led off the sixth with a solo shot to make it 7-3.

Sophomore first baseman Steve Toneatti (
Ramsey, N.J./St. Stephen's Episcopal) had a 2-run single to highlight Ohio Wesleyan's 4-run eighth inning and senior catcher Matt Strasburg (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) added an RBI double in the ninth.

Williams went 4-for-5 with 4 runs scored and 3 RBI to highlight the Bishop offense. Toney and Hall contributed 2 hits apiece.
