Chris Sidick hit a 3-run homer to break up a pitchers' duel and Marietta went on to defeat Ohio Wesleyan in non-conference action on Tuesday in Marietta.

Marietta had taken a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning as Tony Piconke beat out an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error by junior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth Academy), then scored on a single by Justin Steranka.

That was all the scoring through the first 4.0 innings as sophomore righthander Sean Ring (Hilliard/Davidson) and Marietta starter Mike Mooney locked up in a pitchers' duel. The Pioneers got a hit in the second, but Ring induced Lee Guerrera to bounce into an inning-ending double play. Mooney, meanwhile, retired the first 13 Bishop hitters in order before Hall drew a 1-out walk in the fifth.

Marietta jumped to a 6-0 lead in the fifth when Chris Hendricks led off with a single. Guerrera followed with a single, but Hendricks was cut down after rounding second base. Zack Welch followed with an infield single before Sidick hit a homer to right. Ryan Belanger then walked and scored on Steranka's RBI double and Jarrod Klausman delivered an RBI single to score Steranka. The Pioneers added a pair of runs in the sixth and 7 more in the seventh.

Mooney took a no-hitter into the ninth inning but surrendered a leadoff single to freshman second baseman Jerrell Johnson (Shaker Heights). Junior shortstop Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) also singled in the inning but Ohio Wesleyan stranded both runners.

Ring pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs, and was charged with the loss. Junior righthander Adam Dunn (Westerville/Worthington Christian), freshman righthander Sean Speed (Cincinnati/St. Xavier), sophomore lefthander John Parssinen (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) and freshman righthander Justin Grota (San Antonio, TX/MacArthur) also pitched for the Bishops.
