Heidelberg 12, Ohio Wesleyan 3

Kyle Hintze drove in 3 runs and Jimmy Williams and Alex Rutter plated 2 runs apiece to lead Heidelberg to a non-conference win over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday at Littick Field.

The Student Princes took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Jon Hatfield led off with a single and scored on A.J. Schlea's double. Schlea then scored on a single by Williams.

Heidelberg added 2 more runs in the second on RBI singles by Matt Decker and Hintze, and scored twice in the fourth, with Rutter's leadoff homer the highlight.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning when freshman outfielder Wes Desmond (Frisco, Texas/MacArthur) led off with a walk, moved to second on a single by freshman third baseman Caleb Douce (Caledonia/River Valley) and scored on a single by freshman catcher Eric Stitzlein (Loudonville).

Hintze lined a 2-run single for the Student Princes in the sixth and Williams plated a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Bishops came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the seventh. With 2 out, junior second baseman Brandon Williams (Dublin/Coffman) tripled and scored on Desmond's RBI single. Desmond moved to second on a wild pitch, and after a walk to sophomore shortstop Kyle Sherman (Plain City/Dublin Scioto), junior third baseman Sammy Hall (North Riverside, Ill./Nazareth) drove in Desmond with a single.

Heidelberg wrapped up the scoring with 3 runs in the top of the ninth.

Freshman righthander Justin Grota (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Markus Black was the starting and winning pitcher for Heidelberg.
